West Chester Borough Council to Consider Alcohol Policies at Work Session

Council will discuss its alcohol policies, among other things, at Tuesday's meeting.

West Chester Borough Council will once again push for legislation at the state level that would allow local municipalities to place a 10 percent tax on alcohol.

Under the current law, it would be illegal for a borough of West Chester’s size to levy such a tax.

At tomorrow night’s work session, council will discuss whether or not it will pass a resolution supporting legislation that would allow West Chester to tax alcohol sold in the borough.

Council is also expected to accept an almost $9,700 donation from the Bartenders Ball that was held last winter.  All of the proceeds raised by the ball will go to fund legal expenses related to alcohol license issues and alcohol related police equipment.

At Tuesday’s meeting council will also consider adopting the borough’s Historic Preservation Plan.  The plan, put together by Ray Ott, will focus on preserving the historic quality of the borough while still moving forward.

Council will also consider converting some of the light fixtures in the municipal building to LED.   Some of the money for this conversion will come from the borough’s grant it received as part of the Bicentennial Garage project.

The estimated cost of the conversion is $11,246, with 50 percent of that being paid for with grant money.
