School Board Bans Campaign Materials from District Property

The West Chester School Board adopts a policy that restricts flier distribution on district property including political campaign material.

The West Chester Area School Board adopted a new flier distribution policy on Monday that forces any organization to gain superintendent permission before handing out materials on district property.

The list includes no-brainer items such as materials that violate federal, state or local laws, but also included on the list are political campaign materials.

The policy does include a measure that would allow campaign materials to appear at district facilities being used as polling places but only why the polling place is active.

The policy goes on to say that the only materials that will even be considered for distribution include:

  • Non-profit groups serving the students of the district.
  • PTO and Booster Groups
  • Events involving children and sponsored by munincipalities in the district.
