County Commissioners to Hold Special Meeting on Wednesday

County officials will discuss the sale of historic buildings in West Chester Borough.

The Chester County Commissioners will hold a special public meeting on Wednesday, August 24, at 7 p.m. to discuss the sale of three properties owned by the county located in West Chester Borough.

All three of the properties for sale by the county are considered historical buildings, and they are located in the borough’s National Historic District.

Two developers have made bids on the properties: Stan Zukin and Eli Khan for $4 million.

The meeting will be held to discuss other aspects of the sale, like historic preservation; however, specific individual plans will not be discussed.

"We could be talking about two plans, neither of which comes to any fruition. I think it’d be disingenuous to have folks give opinions on plans," said commissioner Ryan Costello at last month’s commissioners’ meeting.

At last Wednesday’s council meeting, former council member Bill Scott raised concerns about the development of the sites.

Scott went as far as to ask the council to pass a resolution asking the county commissioners to make historic preservation a requirement for sale.

Council did not pass the resolution because they believed that there were already steps in place to ensure historic preservation.

Council argued that any changes that were made to these buildings would have to go through the Borough’s Historical And Architectural Review Board as well as the planning commission, the zoning hearing board and ultimately council itself.

"I’m eager to have this meeting, and I'm eager to have it be well-attended," Scott said at last month’s commissioners’ meeting. "I’ve been involved in this for 10 years, so I’ll be there.”
