Chester County to Unveil 2012 Budget

No tax hike projected as the Chester County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Thursday night.

As area towns go through the budget process for 2012 and try to figure out ways to make up for lost revenue, at least Chester County residents won’t have to worry about taxes going up on the county level.

The Chester County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Thursday night to unveil the proposed 2012 county budget, which calls for no tax hike.

The public hearing will be held in the commissioners’ boardroom in West Chester. The public will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed budget.

The plan calls for a 4 percent cut in spending, according to Chester County Chief Administrative Officer Mark Rupsis, who said that the reason for the cuts in spending is because the county has experienced three straight years of negative growth in its real estate tax base.

According to the preliminary budget on the Chester County web site, the median taxpayer in Chester County would see a county tax bill of $657.85 for a property with a value assessed for tax purposes at $165,915.
