Woman Loses $26,000 in Phone Scam

An 86-year-old East Goshen woman loses $26,000 in a phone scam.

According to the Daily Local, an 86-year-old East Goshen woman lost $26,000 in a phone scam this week.

The Daily Local reports that according to the police, an unidentified man and woman contact the East Goshen woman on two separate occassions asking for money to aid the woman's grandson after a fictious car crash. 

“This is not the first case of this kind handled by the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department,” said Detective-Sergeant William Cahill in the Daily Local. “Criminals use fear and sympathy to convince residents to act quickly and transfer the money to save their relative who they represent (and) is out of the area.”

Police urged residents to independently verify information given to them over the phone by contacting the family member or someone they know who can contact them.
