West Chester police report that 24-year-old Jamal Scott died early Saturday morning of a gunshot wound he received on East Union Street, east of South Matlack and east of Fassnaught Alley.
According to police, patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Union and Matlack Streets after a report of gunshots being fired.
A short time later, police received a phone call from the Chester County Hospital Emergency Unit reporting that the hospital was treating a gunshot wound victim.
Police believe that Scott drove himself to the hospital.
Scott was attended to by doctors at the Chester County Hospital and then transported by helicopter to the Paoli Hospital’s trauma center.
Scott then expired as a result of his injuries.
The West Chester Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide and asking anyone with information to contact the police at 610-696-2700.
