State Police Offer Tips to Avoid Thefts from Vehicles

Following a rash of thefts from motor vehicles Pennsylvania State Police offer tips to avoid being a victim of the crime.

According to State Police, there have been several thefts from vehicles recently and many happened in resident driveways. Residents are making themselves easy targets, according to State Police, by leaving vehicles unlocked, keys in the ignition, windows open or valuables in plain sight. 

Purses, iPods, cell phones, laptops, briefcases, money or wallets have been left in plain view and taken from vehicles, according to State Police.

The tips below can help to prevention items from being taken from a vehicle:

  • Do not leave valuables in plain view
  • Completely close all vehicle windows
  • Lock the vehicle and take out the keys
  • When using a garage, make sure the vehicle and garage door are locked
  • Try to park in well-lit areas close to the destination
  • If valuables need to be left in the vehicle, place them in the trunk prior to arriving at the destination
  • Engrave expensive accessories
  • Avoid leaving vehicles running while unattended
