Rustin Swim Coach Going to Jail for Sex with Student

Despite his pleas, Kenneth Fuller will spend 7-to-23 months in jail for his spring affair.

Kenneth Fuller is going to jail.

The former Bayard Rustin swim coach who pleaded guilty in January to having sex with a 17-year-old member of his team will serve a 7-to 23-month sentence after a judge rejected his appeal to remain free, the Daily Local News is reporting.

On Tuesday, in the courtroom of Judge David Bortner, Fuller, 48, told the judge he wished to avoid jail time so he could take care of his family. The judge said he didn’t doubt the jail term would cause problems for Fuller’s family, but added  “he should have thought about that before he decided to act the way he did.”

According to court documents, Fuller had sex with the girl on three known occasions between April 27 and May 5 of 2012. Fuller had trysts with the girl in a hotel and an area park, and on one occasion helped her fake a doctor’s note so she could get out of class and engage sexually with him.

Fuller, a West Goshen-based engineer, had been coaching in the district since the 2009-10 school year.
