Nuisance Crimes Up Slightly in West Chester

Two dozen people are facing charges.

West Chester Police report they arrested two dozen people over the past week as part of the borough's ongoing "Operation Vigilance" program to cut down on nuisance crimes. That number is up from 15 in late July.

For the week of August 5-11 West Chester Police say the charges against those arrested break down this way (some people face more than one charge):

            Under Age Drinking  7

            Public Drunkenness  7

            Noise Disturbance    3

            Open Container        1

            Disorderly Conduct   2

            Assault                    1

            Public Indecency      2

The week included several downtown West Chester events when more people than usual come to the borough.  There is no indication from the police department as to what may have contributed to overall arrests numbers that are slightly higher than past few weeks.

The numbers of arrests and reported offenses tends to be higher when West Chester University is in session and the population of young adults in the borough swells.

Classes resume on at WCU on August 26.
