Man Wielded Machete Outside Barnaby's, Police Say

According to WCPD, the man was threatening passersby with the weapon.

After a brief pursuit through the borough, a local man was arrested last weekend for threatening West Chester bar goers with a machete, according to police.

According to court documents, West Chester Police were dispatched to 50 South High Street for a report of a man wielding a machete in front of Barnaby’s and threatening passersby after midnight, at 12:29 a.m. Friday morning.

As police arrived, the man ran south on High Street. After a search of the area, police located the man in the parking lot of United Methodist Church.

Police say they told him to drop the weapon, but he ignored them and headed south in Sharon Alley, still holding the machete. A West Chester officer then used a Tazer gun on the man and took him into custody.

The man was charged with aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime, terroristic threats, and recklessly endangering another person.
