Man Driving Stolen Car Spotted on 202, Arrested, Police Report

The driver rented the car over the summer and never returned it, according to Westtown-East Goshen Police.

A Delaware man was arrested outside the borough over the weekend for driving a rental car he took out August and never returned, Westtown-East Goshen Police are reporting.

Salvatore Giacona, 41, was charged with receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of an automobile and driving with a suspended license. He was confined to Chester County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $5,000 bail. 

According to the department, on February 16 at 4:45 p.m., a Westtown-East Goshen officer was traveling along 202 north when the license plate reader his patrol car is equipped with alerted him that a stolen vehicle was traveling southbound.

The officer turned around and located the car, a blue Ford Fusion, on the 1100 block of Wilmington Pike, and followed the vehicle until backup joined him.

The car was eventually stopped by members of the Westtown-East Goshen, Birmingham, State Police-Media, and State Police Aviation police departments. Police said that the car was occupied by Giacona, who was driving, an adult woman, and two children.

Police determined Giacona had rented the Fusion from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car at the Philadelphia Airport, and never returned it. While the driver was arrested and charged, the woman and two children were able to obtain a ride to return to Delaware.
