FOP Accidentally Sends Letter of Endorsement to Truitt

The Chester County Fraternal Order of Police accidentally sends a letter to Dan Truitt endorse his campaign when they meant to endorse Bret Binder.

The Chester County Fraternal Order of Police accidentally sent a letter of endorsement to State Rep. Dan Truitt of the PA-156th district on Wednesday after the had already endorsed Binder.

In an e-mail sent to the Binder campaign, FOP president Edward Toner writes:

Also please be advised that a letter was sent to Dan Truitt in error, stating that  Lodge No. 11 had endorsed Mr. Truitt for the 156 Legislative District.

The e-mail goes on to say:

Please be advised that Lodge No. 11, did endorse you [Bret Binder] at our September 19, 2012 general meeting for the 156 Legislative District.

Toner continues:

I personally apologize for this error.

Both Truitt and Binder posted blogs on West Chester Patch claiming the endorsement, while Binder called upon Truitt to retract his.

In the Daily Local Friday morning, FOP solicitor Joe DiGiorgio said that the FOP accepts fault for the mix-up, and that the Truitt campaign did not do anything underhanded.

While the initial error is understandable, a printed retraction from the Truitt campaign is now overdue!

That sounds kind of embarrassing for the FOP, especially since they sent a signed letter to Rep. Truitt. Hopefully Mr. Binder won't crow too loudly, making the situation worse for the FOP president.

I'm sure the FOP vetted the candidates and Truitt must have known he wasn't going to get the endorsement. He may not have even attempted to go through the process. Truitt makes it no secret that he is anti-union and backed by the extreme right religious faction of the Republican party.

This is not the first time that Dan Triutt has lied to the public. In 2008, Dan Truitt told the public that he was running because of too much regulation of small business was coming from Harrisburg. This turned out not to be true as Truitt engineering almost went bankrupt because of bad management. Now Dan Truitt is lying about the Police endorsement because he is being supported by the Republican Supervisors of East Goshen and he supports their position of removing the Police. He knows that this is a losing issue for him so he needs to lie about it. That is why we need to vote Dan Truitt out of office.

Truitt still has not taken down his press release. What is he thinking?
Straight Shooter October 06, 2012 at 12:23 AM
Enlighten us Steve. How is it a lie? The F.O.P ADMITTED they sent the letter. You're playing a ridiculous game.
Straight Shooter October 06, 2012 at 12:29 AM
That's funny. Here I thought the people who make the mistake are suppose to retract. Glad I know now I can do or say whatever I want and other people can clean up my mess! Maybe being a sensible human being and waiting to confirm everything directly from a source before taking action on a stupid press release is appropriate? Although I wouldn't expect a partisan to display common sense. Binder should move to a place where his positions actually have a chance at winning. His views do not align with the 156th.

The mistake was by the FOP president, Toner. He apologized for it and detailed in his letter who the FOP supports. I doubt the Truitt folks are going to continue assuming they have the FOP's backing and Toner's letter should speak for itself. Move on, Stephanie.

Why do so many readers try to make mountains out of mole hills? There is no "lie" here, just an interest group that made a common mistake.

Straight shoot, I don't know what you think a mistake is, but Truitt's post and press release is still up at this very moment. That is a mistake. You're trying to argue that he shouldn't take it down? THAT MAKES NO SENSE. If you are being honest, as you like to think you are, then you have to agree it's time for him to take down the posting.

Why should he take it down? Let the people see what the FOP did to jerk Mr. Truitt around. So can anybody endorse someone and then decide to take it back at there own discursion? That's just toying with one how fair is that? I think the people who read that initial article need to have time to read what the FOP did to Mr. Truitt. I say leave it up and let the people read what they did to Mr. Truitt. Mr. Dem people it was a back handed thing I think you did to Mr. Truitt. Mr. Truitt doesn't need the FOP as he stand along and stands tall on all the thing he has done for the people in West Chester he has made the town of West Chester a better town with more people employed since he took office. He is a man of truth and I say let the truth be heard and let the letter stand. God bless our State Rep Dan Truitt

Except Truitt didn't run for office until 2010.
