End of WCU Term Brings Big Drop in Some Crime

What a difference a week makes when it comes to drinking, drugs and other misdemeanors West Chester.

 

West Chester Police report crimes statistics for what they've dubbed "Operation Vigilance" on a reglar basis. The numbers for last week are now out and the difference between the second week of May and the last week of the month/first few days of June are dramatic:

For the time period of Monday May 27 through Sunday June 2  the following arrests were made as a result of Operation Vigilance as compared with the week ending May 19.:

  •  Underage Drinking  2 down from 3
  •  Public Drunkenness 6 down from 10
  •  Public Indecency     2 down from 3
  •  DUI                        2 unchanged
  •  Disorderly Conduct  2 down from 5
  •  Noise                     2 down from 3
  •  Criminal Mischief     1 down from 2       
  •  Trespass                 7 up from 2
  •  Drugs                     3 up from 1
  •  Theft                      2 up from 1
  •  Burglary                 1 up from 0

During the week of May 27- June 2 A total of twenty-two 22 people were arrested and charged with the offenses listed above. A total of 30 people were arrested during the week leading up to West Chester University's graduation on May 18th.

While crimes are certainly committed by people other than collge students, the numbers indicate younger adults and older teens impact the numbers.
