Route 202 Nighttime Paving Nears Completion near West Chester

The final paving of Route 202 between Route 100 and Matlack Street in West Goshen Township, Chester County is nearing completion as construction winds down on the $19.3 million improvement project, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

Motorists can expect to face single-lane patterns on this section of Route 202 on Sunday through Friday (May 13-18) while crews apply the final layer of asphalt on the highway’s shoulders, ramps and acceleration/deceleration lanes. Northbound lane closures will occur each night from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and southbound restrictions will last from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Route 202 motorists are advised to allow more time for travel or use an alternate route during construction because backups and delays will occur.

PennDOT is nearing completion of the project to improve this 4.3-mile section of Route 202. Construction is scheduled to finish by Memorial Day weekend.  

PennDOT is improving Route 202 by replacing deteriorated concrete pavement and resurfacing the four-lane expressway; reinforcing the roadway shoulders; patching and repairing eight bridges; painting steel beams on three bridges; removing and replacing five overhead sign structures; installing new highway signs; installing new guide rail and median barriers; and installing safety rumble strips and pavement reflectors.

Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $19,377,081 project. The project is financed with 100 percent federal ARRA funds.
