Route 202 Nighttime Paving near West Chester Next Week

Route 202 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Matlack Street and Route 100 on Sunday through Thursday (May 6-10) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The following is a press release from PennDOT.

Final paving operations will continue at night next week on the $19.3 million improvement of Route 202 in West Goshen and Westtown townships, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

Route 202 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Matlack Street and Route 100 on Sunday through Thursday (May 6-10) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews apply the final layer of asphalt on this portion of the four-lane highway.

Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel or use an alternate route during construction because backups and delays will occur on Route 202.

PennDOT is nearing completion on the project to improve this 4.3-mile section of Route 202. Construction is scheduled to finish in late May 2012.

PennDOT is improving Route 202 by replacing deteriorated concrete pavement and resurfacing the four-lane expressway; reinforcing the roadway shoulders; patching and repairing eight bridges; painting steel beams on three bridges; removing and replacing five overhead sign structures; installing new highway signs; installing new guide rail and median barriers; and installing safety rumble strips and pavement reflectors.

Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $19,377,081 project. The project is financed with 100 percent federal ARRA funds.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to www.511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on Route 202 and other major highways before heading out.
