Nighttime Paving to Slow Travel on Route 202 near West Chester

Route 202 construction continues.

The following is a press release from PennDOT.

Nighttime lane closures will be in effect on Route 202 between Matlack Street and Route 100 in , Chester County on Sunday through Thursday (April 22-26) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

Route 202 will be reduced to one lane in each direction while crews place the final layer of asphalt on this stretch of the highway. This operation is part of PennDOT’s $19.3 million project to improve this 4.3-mile section of Route 202. Construction is scheduled to finish in late May 2012.

Route 202 motorists are advised to allow more time for travel or use an alternate route during construction because backups and delays will occur.

PennDOT is improving Route 202 by replacing deteriorated concrete pavement and resurfacing the four-lane expressway; reinforcing the roadway shoulders; patching and repairing eight bridges; painting steel beams on three bridges; removing and replacing five overhead sign structures; installing new highway signs; installing new guide rail and median barriers; and installing safety rumble strips and pavement reflectors.

Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $19,377,081 project. The project is financed with 100 percent federal ARRA funds.
