It's the Fourth Annual "Grand Slam!"

Attention Story-Tellers (and anyone interested in hearing a good “yarn”)   the West Chester Story Slam 2013 Grand Slam is fast approaching.
This year’s popular
Grand Slam will be held Tuesday, November 12th at a new location: the Chester County Historical Society (CCHS) in West Chester.

Jim Breslin, the Story Slam’s founder, sees CCHS as an ideal venue.  Here’s what he says on the group’s web site:  “ The Grand Slam is the annual event, when the ten winning storytellers of the season go toe-to-toe for the chance to be titled ‘The Best Storyteller in West Chester,’and I’m thrilled the CCHS has partnered with us so we could use their auditorium."
Wait, there’s more (Breslin is a story-teller with a stickler for details, after all )  “Every year, our Grand Slam has been packed with story lovers and we've had to turn people away. The auditorium at CCHS is a beautiful space with a big stage worthy of our winning storytellers. I'm also thrilled that we can keep the Grand Slam in the borough, so folks can enjoy dinner intown beforehand and also come to the after-party we're having at Side Bar. “
Now in its fourth year, the Grand Slam was previously held at the borough’s Ryan’s Pub (2010, 2011) and at Victory Brewing Co. (2012) in Downingtown.  The decision to move to CCHS was largely because Breslin and his fellow organizers expect a HUGE crowd.
Here’s Breslin’s final words:  We “can accommodate over 200 spectators, hopefully giving everyone interested the opportunity to watch these incredible storytellers compete in our final showdown.”

If you haven’t had the chance to attend a Grand Slam (this is me talking), it’s  a lot like a line-up of comedians who stand before an audience (that’s you) and attempt to tell their best story ever.

There’s also a  small panel
of judges, and of course,  the story-tellers have creative restraints: everyone must build their story around the night’s theme:“Changes.” In fact, listening to people’s interpretations of the same theme is part of the fun.  Watching the story-teller’s  expressions and performance style  (that too is judged)  is  part of the evening too.
