"I am convinced I cannot get too many Renoirs," Albert Barned declared in 1913. Three decades later he had built the largest collection in the world, amassing a total of 181 works by the artist. Dr. Martha Lucy, author of Renoir in the Barnes Foundation, comes to the library to discuss Barnes' fascination with Renoir and how the paintings fit into the large collection of more subversive painters like Matisse, Soutine and Picasso.

Martha Lucy worked as Associate Curator for seven years at the Barnes Foundation before assuming her current post in the Art & Art History Department at Drexel University. Dr. Lucy is the co-author of Renoir in the Barnes Foundation, the first scholarly catalogue of the Barnes's enormous Renoir collection, and of Masterworks: The Barnes Foundation.

Copies of Renoir in the Barnes Foundation will be for sale and signing by the author. Register on the library's website:www.tredyffrinlibraries.org.
