Thunderstorm hits area, causes problems in West Chester

Monday night's thunderstorm brought much-needed relief to many, but it caused major flooding in West Chester as well as traffic delays.

Monday night’s thunderstorm caused major problems in the West Chester area Monday night. Streets were flooded and traffic was backed up in many areas.

The National Weather service has issued flood advisory for West Chester in effect until 10:15 p.m.

At 7:35 p.m. the National Weather Service indicated that a strong storm was moving into the area and dropped as much as two inches of rain in some locations.

Experts advise that travellers avoid low lying areas next to rivers, creeks and streams and urban areas with poor drainage.

In West Chester, the areas near Goose Creek will be affected.  Gay Street heading into town is passable but covered in water, and Montgomery Avenue at the intersection of Chestnut Street is completely underwater.
