Moms Talk: Festivals

Our group of local moms talk about their favorite summertime festivals.

Joining us for Mom Talk today is Sayre Cotherman, a stay at home mom and student; Jane Thompson-Rosenzweig, nutrition blogger (http://optimalhealthmama.blogspot.com/) and grad student; Katie Beck, stay at home mom and part-time bookkeeper; and the author, Sarah Alderman, freelance writer and realtor.

Patch: Festival season is upon us! What is your favorite WC street festival to take the kids to?

Sayre: We are bigs fans of the WC Restaurant Festival. It's not necessarily made for kids, but we like to pretend we are rich enough to be "foodies" and max has quite a sophisticated palate! If you time it right and head over as soon as it starts, you can sample TONS of the food with no worry that it will have run out. There are no lines. And, best of all, you don't feel like a jerk pushing a stroller, because most non-family people are still rolling out of bed by the time you are on your second "course.

Jane: I cannot tell a lie: I hate taking the kids to any of the street festivals. They are so crowded and pushing a stroller through the crowd is enough to send me to the asylum. I love to walk around town with my hubby and the girls on Saturday or Sunday mornings or evenings when it is cool, there is no stress to find parking, or crowds to fight.

Katie: I like Swinging Summer Thursdays before they get too rowdy ... and I really like Super Sunday because its not as crowded and therefore more manageable with the stroller.  (Unlike the Chili Cook Off, which was almost unbearable last year!)  I'm a big TurksFest-er at heart too.

Sarah: I have a panic attack just thinking about taking the twins to the Restaurant Festival. I get a little weirded out in big crowds, especially if I’m trying to maneuver a stroller or keep track of two kids on foot. I’m a big fun of Swingin’ Thursdays and Super Sunday for the kids. There seem to be more family oriented activities and vendors at these events and there’s notably less emphasis on the drinking aspect.
