Art Talk and Book Signing

Weekends shouldn’t always be about errands or
obligations!  Stop in at Wellington Square, in the community of Eagleview, and enjoy two cultural events this Saturday.

At 1 p.m. West Chester artist David Oleski will give a
gallery talk at the Other Colors Gallery. His solo show opened to a large crowd on January 20th and by special request, he has returned to discuss what makes him tick as an artist.

His work is featured in the book, 100 Artists of the Brandywine Valley, whose author, Catherine Quillman, will be on hand to personalize your book with
a special Valentine’s Day message.  The
book signing will be held from 10 to 1 p.m. next door at the Wellington Square Bookshop, 543 Wellington Square, Exton, PA 19341.

As the photos posted here suggest, Oleski could be described as a nontraditional “traditional” still life painter. His work recalls those 19th-century French Impressionists who found a lifetime of work often painting a singular subject (notably haystacks and apples).

Oleski  is similarly devoted to mastering the replication of color and form, but he’s also very much an artist of the 21st century.  Oleski will discuss his method of working, typically with a video camera rolling and recording his vigorous brushwork.

Two videos of his work (one finished only a few hours before his opening reception) are on a continuous loop in the gallery.

Oleski also continues to develop an extensive and colorful
website (DavidOleski.com) which chronicles many aspects of the life of an artist.  His website features  a studio journal, online gallery, and even a full-motion video camera that documents each painting session.

In person, Oleski  is a fun and lively speaker. Join him and
Catherine Quillman for an inspirational afternoon!
