Bringing Home The Bacons

Richard Callene enjoys The Bacon Brothers' music, showmanship and contribution to the Chester County community. 

But just once, he'd like to see Kevin Bacon's wife, Kyra Sedgwick, at one of the band's shows, he said and smiled.

Callene and his wife Kim, of Perkasie, have been to three Bacon Brothers concerts.

On Friday, the Callenes were at the to see the band play for the fourth time.

"It's a really fun, entertaining evening. They interact with the audience," Richard Callene said.

"We own all their CDs," Kim Callene said.

Friday's event raised money for the theater and French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust. The non-profit groups partner to support and grow cultural events and land preservation.

Michael Bacon, a composer for TV and film, and his brother Kevin, who has starred in more than 40 films, were raised in Philadelphia and spent summers at their grandparents' home in East Pikeland Township on land conserved by the French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust.

Nearly 500 folks were at the event. That's roughly 100 more than the last time the band played the theater in 2009. 

"Ticket sales were phenomenal," said French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust Director Pam Brown. "We're thrilled."

The Bacon brothers have deep roots in Chester County—their grandmother and grandfather are longtime friends of the community, she said.

"They've stayed supportive," she said.

have performed in Phoenixville every year but last year since 2007, she said. 

"They are so warm and accessible and cooperative," Brown said of the Bacons. 

Mary Foote, executive director of the Colonial, said the Bacon fund-raisers will help renovate the theater's third floor. 

"This is their way of giving back," Cary Leptuck, president of the conservation trust, said of The Bacon Brothers. "We're glad to have them."

Gail Friel drove three hours from her home in Rockville, MD to see The Bacon Brothers performance. She saw the band play earlier this year, she said.

"I love live music and these guys, they're fun," she said. "(The drive) is definitely worth it." 

Brothers Jonathan, Jackson and Sam Griffiths, 13, 14 and 17, respectively, and their friend David Bullard, 17, were at the concert thanks to tickets from the brothers' dad Robert Griffiths of Griffiths Construction Inc. 

Sam Griffiths said he saw the Bacon Brothers in concert two years ago.

"I like their music ... their live concerts," he said.

"This is my first concert ever," Jonathan said.
