Flash Flood Warning Issued for Chester County

Fast-moving storms can swamp roads in a matter of minutes.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Chester County and much of the region until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A fast moving band of severe weather has been moving quickly from west to east through the region.  There were reports of tornadoes in parts of Maryland as part of the same storm system.

According to the National Weather Service, a  flash flood warning means
"THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. IF YOU ARE IN THE WARNING AREA MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY. RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY. NEVER ATTEMPT TO CROSS SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN DEPTH BY FOOT OR IN AN AUTOMOBILE. TURN AROUND DON`T DROWN!"

Once the flood warning expires, there will be a flood watch in effect until 4 p.m.

PennDOT Spokesman Gene Blaum, appearing live on CBS3 Eyewitness News Tuesday morning warned motorists not to drive through standing water. "Your tires can easily lose contact with the road surface," Blaum warned.
