Chester County SPCA's Message About Pets Surprises Some

As more pet owners determine they can't afford to keep their animals, the SPCA has a plea for the public.

The Chester County SPCA has a message for pet owners who may no longer be able to care for their pets: Please try to find a new home for your pet before bringing it to the SPCA.

The Chester County SPCA posted this message Sunday on its Facebook page:

Friends of the Chester County SPCA we appreciate your loyalty and look to you to spread the word about responsible pet ownership. Please pass this important message along to all your friends and colleagues. If for some reason anyone of them finds themselves in the unfortunate position that they no longer can care for their pet to please try to rehome their beloved companion before bringing them into the SPCA. We do everything possible to replace animals. But their efforts to do that without our help would be greatly appreciated! Some commenters expressed surprise but one said she was glad to know the SPCA's position. so glad you shared this, I always thought, as do many, that it was not just frowned upon to re-home but that if found out the SPCA would take the pet back. Thank you!!!"

SPCA facilities all over the country, including Chester County have seen a dramatic uptick in pets being turned in recent years.
