Beekeepers Have WCU Campus Buzzing

It's a honey of a convention that has parts of the West Chester University Campus breaking out in hives.

Beekeepers from all over the Eastern Seaboard have come to West Chester for the Eastern Apicultural Society's 2013 Conference.

Classes and seminars covering everything from the 'best way to read a bee hive' to 'practical queen rearing techniques' are continuing through Friday.

In addition to queen bees, the convention so has a princess. Jessica Aurard is a rising high school senior from south of Harrisburg. She has also been an amateur beekeeper for the past 10 years. She says there is much more to beekeeping than just collecting honey.

She wrote essays as part of the competition to earn the title of Pennsylvania Honey Princess. She is among the youngest bee enthusiasts at the gathering which features bee hive displays in the lobby of the Sykes Student Union on the WCU campus.
