Chesterbrook Academy Elementary School Students Turn Principal and Teachers into Human Ice Cream Sundaes
On March 7, Chesterbrook Academy Elementary School students in West Chester, Pa., transformed their principal and teachers into human ice cream sundaes at a school carnival in celebration of National Reading Month. As a reward for reading more than 2,000 books, students covered principal Joe Rodia and fellow Chesterbrook Academy teachers with ice cream and toppings, including fudge, cherries, whipped cream and sprinkles.
This year, after third grade student Meredith Watson proposed the idea of adding a service project to the annual National Reading Month campaign, Chesterbrook Academy decided to partner with African Library Project by collecting 1,000 books for a village in Ghana. African Library Project, which builds libraries in rural Africa, mobilizes U.S. volunteers to organize book drives and ship books to partner libraries in Africa.
