Westtown East Goshen Regional Police say a high-tech license plate reader led officers to an accused car thief at Dilworthtown Crossing in Thornbury Township May 17 around 7:45 p.m. Police say the device, which is mounted on patrol cars and can read and process license plates numbers through a data base, picked up a license plate linked to a stolen car while officers were on patrol in the shopping center.   A 27-year-old man from Guatemala a is facing DUI and other charges after West Chester police were called to a Dunkin' Donuts on Downingtown Pike in East Bradford Township. According to police, a 9-1-1 caller reported an intoxicated man inside the Dunkin' Donuts on Saturday morning at 6:36 a.m.. When police arrived the caller told officers the man had driven to the store in a black Ford Explorer SUV. A two-vehicle accident Friday night on Route 202 critically injured a motorcyclist and prompted drunken-driving charges against a pickup truck driver, Westtown-East Goshen police say. At 10:28 p.m., police responded to Route 202 and Stanton Avenue in Westtown Township. Investigators believe the 24-year-old motorcyclist from Chesterbrook was riding north on 202 when a 49-year-old West Chester man driving his Dodge Ram pickup truck south turned left toward Stanton, into the motorcycle's path. A 32-year-old West Chester man was charged with DUI in April after West Goshen Police say they found him slumped over the wheel of his car in a Wawa parking lot. On April 12 at 3:41 a.m., police were on patrol in the area of the Wawa convenience store located at 1195 Pottstown Pike, when they saw the defendant leaning over the steering wheel of his car. The man smelled like alcohol and consented to and failed a series of field sobriety tests, police say. He was charged with DUI and taken to Chester County Hospital to have blood drawn for testing.

Burglary On April 4 at 12:10 a.m., West Chester Police say a man burglarized the Campus Laundromat Store located at 320 South High Street. Police say the defendant, later identified as Brenton Ford, a 28-year-old West Chester man, stole cash from the business. Ford was arrested on April 4, charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, and several misdemeanors related the alleged crime, and confined to Chester County prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. A 22-year-old West Chester man is in Chester County Prison after police say he stole an engagement ring and other jewels from a home on the 1200 block of Knollwood Drive. On Monday, West Goshen Police responded to the home after they received a report that the $2,000 ring had been stolen. According to court documents, the victim suspected that an acquaintance had taken the ring. West Goshen Police say they asked other local law enforcement agencies if they knew of the suspect, and if so, had he sold jewelry at any establishments in their areas. A Georgia Lane resident was the victim of a burglary this week, West Goshen Police are reporting. On Monday evening, a resident of the 500 block of the street went to visit her neighbor. While she was only gone between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., during this time police say someone entered her home through her unlocked rear door and stole her purse. The purse contained an undisclosed amount of cash and various credit cards. West Goshen Police are investigating the incident.

DUI A 24-year-old West Chester man was involved in a one-vehicle crash at Pottstown Pike and Kirkland Avenue on March 23 at 2 a.m., police are reporting.  The driver’s white Honda Insight had left the roadway, struck an embankment, and landed on its side, police say. While the driver was able to climb out of the car, the investigating officer detected evidence of intoxication and issued field sobriety tests.
