West Chester Student Makes His Mark as a Mathlete

Devon Prep sophomore Daniel Crowe and his teammates advanced to the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Mathletes Championships.

While spring is usually a time when amatuer athletes hog the headlines, some local mathletes are making a name for themselves.

Devon Prep’s Mathletes Team, led by sophomore and West Chester resident Daniel Crowe, recently placed second in their division and qualified for the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Mathletes championships in late April.

Devon Prep’s Mathletes Team, under the direction of Math Teacher Mr. Christopher Hollowell, recently took second place in their division and qualified for the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Mathletes championships in late April. They placed fourth overall in the year-long Archdiocesan competition.

Sophomore Pandurang Bharne and Freshman Alexandru Damian finished first and second, respectively, as the division points leaders. They placed in the top five point leaders group for the Archdiocese and have been invited to represent the diocese in a competition against the Philadelphia public league on April 22.

Mathletes is an interscholastic math competition between schools in the Archdiocese. Competitions are hosted once a month beginning in the fall and the locations and the topics vary.
