WEGO Police Department Saved
The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department reaches a deal with the townships to keep the department intact.
The Daily Local reports that a deal has been reached between the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department and the board of supervisors just a week after supervisors from Westtown and East Goshen declared intentions of disbanding the force.
According to the Daily Local, a special meeting of the Westtown-East Goshen police commission was held at 7 a.m. Monday morning to announce the deal that will also include police services for Thornbury Township.
The Daily Local reports:
“East Goshen Township, Westtown Township, Thornbury Township, and the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Commission are happy to announce that all parties have reached agreement on the terms of a police contract and a Thornbury police services agreement that will continue the excellent police services of the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department (WEGO) through Dec. 31, 2018,” said Carol DeWolf, a Westtown supervisor who also represents the township on the Police Commission.

I have lived in EG Twshp. for 34 years. It's an excellent township, all the way around. However, it appears that it now has a few "Boss Hoggs" as commissioners, and the residents need to require full transparency of income and expenses. In other words, we need to see a CPA signed Income Statement and Balance Sheet each year, from 2012 and into the future, so the residents are not confronted again with the talk of disbanding our police force. This information should either be published and posted for all to see or mailed to every resident.

Speaking politics, I have to ask, was West Chester used a negotiating tactic, leverage? If WC really thought they were going to get that service fee what gap does that leave in their budget? The fee was around $160,000. I don't want to think WC was played on this one.

WE WON THE FIGHT AND WEGO IS SAVED! Sadly there are probably many out there who are not aware of or in tune with the larger political picture here. Going forward we need to not only look at our BOS's (especially Mr. Isayeff) but we need to look above to where his direction came from, lets start with Dan Truitt and end with Tom Corbett, both very real players in the attempted union busting if WEGO!
