Veggin' Out and it's Amore!
Amore's Pizza now offering vegetarian steaks and burgers
Living in the suburbs can severely limit the culinary options available to the herbivores among us. Although there are vegetarian options on virtually every menu, they’re not always very adventurous, or good, and almost always feel like something is missing.
Even less available are traditional meat dishes made with vegetarian substitutes. In the city, you can find entire restaurants dedicated to just that, but not in many Chester County establishments. Amore’s has set out to change that with vegetarian cheeseteaks, ‘chicken’ cheesesteaks, and veggie burgers available for dining in or delivery.
After the veggie cheesesteaks at Gianna’s Grille in Philly stole my heart, I was eager to get my hands on one of Amore’s versions. I chose a traditional cheesesteak with mushrooms, American cheese, and ketchup. Faux meat can be tricky and not all are created equal, so I was ecstatic to find Amore’s offering not only palatable, but delectable. The texture was a little smoother than a meat cheesesteak’s would be, although a longer cooking time could probably toughen it up if that’s what you prefer. Ironically my only gripe was with the roll. Delicious and perfectly soft in and of itself, I will get it toasted next time to add some crunch to the otherwise very soft sandwich.
Unless you are vegan, add some cheese, maybe do it classic Philly style with a Wiz With. Whatever toppings you choose, don’t feel you need to completely overcompensate for the meatlessness to get flavor, or worse, to mask any faux-meat funk: this is joyfully not the case.
Amore’s, thank you for showing some love to the local vegetarian community.
