Report: WCU Staff and Students Plan Rally

West Chester University staff will hold two rallies next week.

According to the Daily Local, West Chester University staff and students will hold two rallies next week in opposition to Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed budget.

The Daily Local reports:

The first rally is set for 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 116A Sturzbecker Hall on South Campus. A second protest is set for from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the intersection of Church Street and University Avenue on the university’s North Campus. Speakers at the rallies will talk about the importance of state funding for higher education, and sign-up tables will be available for students to register to vote and to learn about how to contact their state legislators, organizers say.

The Daily Local goes on to say:

Corbett’s budget proposes cutting funding to West Chester University and Pennsylvania’s 13 other state colleges by $330 million. Funding to state-related universities, including Temple University, will be cut by 30 percent. Support for community colleges will be cut by 4 percent.
