Local Boy Scout Wins Award for Saving Infant's Life

Local scout Zachary Radford wins the Medal of Merit, one of the highest honors bestowed on a scout.

The following is a press release.

On May 31, 2012 Boy Scouts of American honored Zachary Radford of Troop 153 with the Medal of Merit for saving the live of two-year-old Billy Nagle.

Nagle began to choke and become unresponsive when Radford took heroic action and performed the heimlich maneuver on the infant.

The Boy Scouts of America bestowed upon Radford the Medal of Merit - one of their highest honors.  This award recognizes Radford for performing an outstanding act of service of rare and exceptional character that reflects an uncommon degree of concern for the well-being of others.

As a Scout, Radford exemplifies many traits of the Scout Law, and the scouts celebrate two of them today:  helpful and brave.

In addition, West Chester Mayor Carolyn Comitta presented Radford with a citation and a key to the City.
