Kooma Showcasing New Rolls
Local sushi staple adds instant classics to their menu
As a matter of evolution, Kooma has introduced a variety of new rolls to their sushi menu. Littered among established favorites like the Engine #6 or West Chester roll, there are a bevy of new, more exotic concoctions to be had.
We settled in to our seats, the atmosphere always consistent and pleasing, and started the experience with our server Bobbi's recommended cocktail, the French Whore Martini. A blend of fruit juice and booze, this drink was a great blend of smooth and sweet.
Next we tried the Miso Soup, which was basic and satisfactory. Our sushi board arrived and included menu anchors the AAC roll (avocado, asparagus and cucumber) and Dragon roll (eel and avocado on a California roll) and two new rolls.
The Genie roll made all of our sushi wishes come true. It is an incredibly indulgent roll, “indulgent” not typically the word that comes to mind when most people think of sushi. This roll contains red tuna, spicy sauce, avocado and cream cheese. After rolling the whole shebang gets deep fried and then topped with spicy sauce, tobico, and scallions. The result is a warm mouthful of sushi bliss. There is the perfect amount of cream cheese to make this roll rich, but not sickening.
The Wilmington roll, assumed to be a creation of the restaurant’s Delaware location, was equally as devoured. The ingredient list is extensive, and it was questionable how these flavors would blend. Inside the roll you’ll find white tuna tempura, avocado and spicy sauce. That’s topped with spicy scallop, crunch, tobico, jalapeno slices, and sweet eel sauce. While my companion, Lauren, preferred the Genie roll, I went nuts for the Wilmington. Whenever fiscally possible, this new creation will be on the top of my roll call for every visit.
