Henderson Grad Named to National Team

Henderson grad Shante Evans will represent the United States in the Pan Am games in women's basketball.

Former West Chester Henderson graduate (09) and current Hofstra University junior forward Shante Evans added arguably the highest honor to her growing list of accolades as the sensational third-year player for the Pride was named to the 2011 USA Basketball Women's Pan American Games Team, it was announced today.

Evans is the first Hofstra women's basketball player to represent USA Basketball in international competition.

The 12-member USA squad that features 11 college athletes and one high school senior will compete at the 2011 Pan American Games from October 21-25 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Evans started all 31 games last season for the Pride and averaged team-bests of 18.4 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.  The West Chester, PA, native had 16 double-doubles last season and ranked third in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in scoring, second in rebounding and third in field goal percentage.

Evans will enter her junior season with 1,024 career points and 665 career rebounds.  She is the first-ever sophomore in program history to reach 1,000 career points and her current total ranks 19th on the career scoring list.  Her 665 rebounds is currently eighth all-time in program history.  Evans is the first Pride player to lead the team in scoring and rebounding in back-to-back years since Kate Gordon achieved that feat in three straight years from 1995-98.

Evans' list of accolades is plentiful, as she earned Associated Press All-America honors last season (first in program history), along with first team All-CAA, first team All-Met and ECAC Division I Women's Basketball All-Star recognition.  Evans, who ranked 31st in the nation in scoring, 13th in rebounding and 16th in double-doubles, was a four-time CAA Player of the Week in 2010-11.
