Council Moves Forward with Thornbury Negotiations
The West Chester Borough Council voted to submit a proposal to provide police services to Thornbury Township.
The West Chester Borough Council voted to “formalize negotiations” with Thornbury Township Tuesday, taking another step towards providing police services.
The council agreed on Tuesday to submit a formal proposal to Thornbury for a police contract for five years of service beginning on Jan. 1, 2013.
Borough Council member Jordan Norley said that the agreement could bring in as much as $160,000 in additional revenue each year of the contract.
Thornbury Township recently rebuffed a contract renewal offer from the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department earlier this year.
The WEGO police department had asked Thornbury to take on more costs due to a number of WEGO police offers leaving the force on full disability.
Borough Council will make a final vote on the proposal Wednesday evening when they approve the consent agenda.
